Apart from an attractive aura and a red tilak on his forehead, there is little about Pandit Promod K. Nandkishore Sharma's external appearance that would make one think that behind this serene, sophisticated exterior lies a mind that has the power to assess you, without you even having to speak. A man with a scientific background, having secured qualifications in both electrical engineering and aeronautics technology as well as a Diploma in Business Management, apart from a master’s degree in Hindi, Panditji's approach to the subject of Vedic Astrology is like that of a professor.
Born in a family of doctors in one of the oldest living cities in the world, Benaras in India, Panditji's motto is to provide hope and attitudinal corrections to the ones seeking answers in life. He believes that India’s ancient knowledge can be harnessed to build positivism in oneself and in one's life.
Early in life, at the age of 16, as a vocation, Sharmaji was selected by the Indian Air Force ( IAF ). During his tenure, even in this regimented life, he found time to dabble in Vedic astrology. The basis of this was his intuitive ability, since intuition is one of the fundamental elements of Vedic Astrology. And early on, Panditji realised that he was blessed with this power.
Once, while serving in the Forces, some colleagues approached him with a photograph and asked to predict that individual's life. Due to his highly evolved intuition, Panditji felt there was something amiss, so he said, "Why do you people joke with me?" His colleague asked him, "Why, what is wrong? We have brought this photo, so why can't you predict?" At this remark, Panditji said, "How can I, when the person (whose photograph you have brought) is no more." His colleagues became stunned when they later discovered that photo presented by them was indeed that of a person who wasn't alive anymore.
In fact, it was this intuitive self which helped him steer towards his chosen life goal later on. He realized that there was a growing spiritual quest within him and that he needed to devote all his energies and time in the practice of Vedic Astrology. It is said that even one’s entire lifetime isn't enough to unfurl all the secrets of this ancient cosmic science.
After fifteen years of service, he retired from the Indian Air Force and settled down in the once quiet, but now bustling city of Pune, about 160 kilometers SE of Mumbai.
His interest became his full-time occupation and he has been studying the various texts of Vedic Astrology and practicing this science since 1980. However, to this day, despite reaching high levels of acclaim and accuracy for his predictions, he is still down-to-earth and humble. He is still open to learning and would prefer to call himself a student of Vedic Astrology rather than a master, for he believes that the time when one begins to think that one knows everything, is the end of all learning.
Being a keen student, Panditji also took up a course in Gemology, offered by the Deccan Education Society (of Fergusson College) in Pune. Gems or semi-precious stones are an integral part of Vedic Astrology and are used just as medicines are used by doctors, to fight ailments. It is believed that each stone emits rays, which can be harnessed to rectify or control an individual's ailment. This was precisely the reason why Panditji took up this subject, so as to enhance his knowledge and help those who come to him by suggestion of remedies in the form of diet control, fasting, prescription of gems and/or chanting of mantras.
